Faith, Without Works, Is Dead

What do you do when you meet a 15 year old young lady who is homeless and pregnant? If we are honest with ourselves, we would probably point the young lady towards an organization that deals with those issues. The issues just seem too large for us to handle on our own. There is a section of the Bible that talks about people seeing someone in need and then just praying for them. It continues by saying why don’t you provide for their needs and pray for them. It is so tempting for us to just keep walking down the path of our own life because we have too many responsibilities already. We can pray for her, so that the responsibility is on God and not on us. Our selfish nature will usually look for the path of least effort and resistance, but ever so often, there comes a person who is willing to stop what they are doing, and not just take notice of the person in need, but do something about it personally.

Jordan Vera is that kind of person. She is a volunteer here at Nineveh and is the mentor of a 15 year old, pregnant, homeless, young lady. While mentoring her, Jordan found out about the seriousness of her situation and decided to open her home to the young lady. She invited the mom to be to live with her, and she supported her through the pregnancy, and she will be there to help raise the baby with her. Jordan is not independently wealthy or a stay at home mom. She works at a foster home for troubled teens and while at work, she deals with shattered lives and hurt souls. Then she comes home and instead of checking out of reality like most of us do after working a long day, she pours out more of herself to another young lady in need.

It is the power and strength that comes from God that carries us on and makes us able to serve others in need. As Christians we need to surrender to the strength that God provides and His strength is made perfect in our weakness. Needless to say, I want to be more like Jordan, and thus I would be more like Christ. We want to acknowledge her for the amazing heart she has. Join with us as we praise God for what He is doing through Jordan, and pray that He will sustain her with all of the fruits of the Spirit, so that the young lady and her new baby will know what the Love of Christ is all about!?
